SKA and KAPPI Global Foundation Present at SIAL Shanghai, Introducing Indonesian Coffee to the Chinese Market

21 August 2026  | Aldi

PT Sumber Kurnia Alam (SKA) took part in SIAL Shanghai, one of the largest food and beverage exhibitions in Asia. At this event, Bank Indonesia, the Ministry of Trade, and KAPPI Global Foundation collaborated to form the Indonesia Pavilion, promoting Indonesian food products, with coffee represented by KAPPI Global Foundation.

Collaboration with KAPPI Global Foundation

As a strategic partner of KAPPI Global Foundation, the SKA team took part directly in the exhibition and helped curate the coffee products on display. This collaboration highlights the synergy between exporters and a coffee development foundation in expanding Indonesian coffee’s export markets, while reinforcing SKA’s role in maintaining the quality of coffee presented on the international stage.

Local Farmer Coffee Selection Process: KAPPI Coffee Selection 2026

Before being brought to SIAL Shanghai, the coffee representing SKA went through an official selection process called KAPPI Coffee Selection 2026. The program was initiated by KAPPI Global Foundation in collaboration with Bank Indonesia, aiming to showcase premium coffee from Bank Indonesia’s partner farmers at SIAL Shanghai 2026 while supporting the sale of Indonesian coffee in the Chinese market. The selection was open to Bank Indonesia’s coffee-producing partners, both Arabica and Robusta.

Selection timeline: - Sample submission deadline: April 15, 2026 - Curation results announcement: April 24, 2026 - Stock lot submission deadline: May 4, 2026

General terms and conditions: - Stock lot quantity: 60 kg (1 sack) - Coffee from the 2025/2026 harvest (crop) - Arabica or Robusta coffee of Premium quality (Grade 1, maximum defect score of 11)

The premium coffee selected through this curation process was the very coffee SKA brought and showcased at the SIAL Shanghai 2026 pavilion, a tribute to the quality and hard work of partner farmers across various regions of Indonesia.

Through a rigorous curation process, SKA’s selected coffee successfully met the Premium quality standard set by the organizing committee, demonstrating consistent quality from partner farms in regions of Indonesia.

Why the Chinese Market?

China is one of the fastest-growing coffee consumption markets in the world. SKA’s presence at SIAL Shanghai was an opportunity to directly introduce the quality of green coffee bean from regions of Indonesia, the result of that selection process, to buyers, distributors, and F&B industry players in China.

This momentum also gave SKA a closer look at coffee consumption trends in China, from growing interest in specialty coffee to the need for a traceable supply chain from upstream to downstream.

The Atmosphere at the Indonesia Pavilion

Inside the booth, KAPPI Global Foundation showcased a variety of Indonesian coffee origins, including coffees that passed the curation process, and held public sampling sessions where coffee was shared directly with visitors. The atmosphere at the SIAL Shanghai booth was busy and crowded, with many visitors eager to try Indonesian coffee. Some even noted that Indonesian coffee has a distinctly unique and bold character.

Building a Bridge to the Asian Market

Participating in SIAL Shanghai is part of SKA’s strategy to expand into East Asian export markets while strengthening its position as a traceable coffee exporter. Through this collaboration with KAPPI Global Foundation, SKA hopes to continue opening up more collaboration opportunities with international partners, while continuing to support local farmers through ongoing selection and mentoring processes.
